Estimated number of people living with HIV in 2007 was 33.2 million. More than 20 million people has died due to AIDS. In 2007 there were 2.5 million new infections. HIV continues to spread especially among young people (15-25 years) - almost a quarter of people living with HIV are under 25 years. In Sub-Saharan Africa approximately 60 to 80 % of women have been infected by their spouses. 10 % of the world's population lives in Africa but 63 % of HIV infected people live there.
